The Kansas City Chiefs receive another shocking piece of news that could destabilize them and jeopardize their future

The Kansas City Chiefs could poised to lose both their offensive and defensive coordinators as the New Orleans Saints eye up Matt Nagy for their head coach, days after Steve Spagnuolo hinted departing the Arrowhead Stadium.

The Saints have been searching for their new coach after axing Dennis Allen on November 4 when they held a 2-7 record and languished second-last in the NFC South, only ahead of the Carolina Panthers.

Since then, Darren Rizzi has led them to a 3-4 record and got some life out of Derek Carr and Alvin Kamara but the damage was already done and they have missed out on the 2024/25 NFL Playoffs.

As per The Athletic’s Dianna Russini, Gayle Benson and Mickey Loomis have turned their attentions to their next permanent head coach, and they have landed on the man who has helped the Chiefs to two Super Bowls.

Matt Nagy joined as the quarterbacks coach and a senior assistant but since 2023 has served as their offensive coordinator with the aim of helping Patrick Mahomes flourish with Travis Kelce, Rashee Rice and DeAndre Hopkins
Nagy previously served as the OC in Kansas City from 2016-2017 before trying his hand as a head coach with the Chicago Bears and was praised for the team culture he managed to create there.

He led the Bears to two postseason appearances in the NFC Wild Card games, before being sacked in his fourth year after finishing with a 6-11 record. He then returned to the Arrowhead Stadium.

Are the Chiefs going to lose Spagnuolo too?
Losing either of the lead coordinators would be a tough blow for Andy Reid to take just a year after penning a five-year contract to stay with the organization he has led to three Super Bowl rings since 2019.

But Nagy and Spagnuolo could shock the front office by both departing the team, with the latter admitting he wants to try his hand as a head coach again after serving as the DC since 2019 to incredible success.

Spagnuolo worked as a head coach for the St Louis Rams (now Los Angeles Rams) from 2009-2011 but struggled and was fired with a 10-38 (.208) record after three seasons, two of which were 1-15 and 2-14.

He then had an interim spell with the New York Giants in 2017, but that wasn’t a success either. He won of his games and lost the other three as the team finished last in the NFC East.
