Iran warns of retaliation after Trump’s Hormuz threat
Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has issued a strong warning to the United States and Israel, threatening to target key infrastructure across the region if its territory is attacked.
The warning comes in direct response to comments made by President Donald Trump, who gave Iran a 48-hour ultimatum to reopen the Strait of Hormuz or face possible strikes on its power facilities.
“We warn for the last time: at the slightest attack on our infrastructure, we will destroy all energy, information technology, and water desalination infrastructure belonging to the United States and the Zionist regime in the region,” the IRGC said in a statement.
The threat signals a potential escalation in the conflict, with Iran expanding its possible targets beyond military assets to include critical infrastructure.
Analysts say such a move could have far-reaching economic and humanitarian consequences across the Gulf.
Tensions have continued to rise as both sides exchange threats, with global markets already reacting to fears of disruption in energy supply routes.
The Strait of Hormuz remains at the centre of the standoff, given its importance to global oil flows and regional stability.
With both sides hardening their positions, concerns are growing that any misstep could trigger a broader and more damaging phase of the conflict.
