Prince Harry’s ‘vocal eye roll’ when asked about royal family working together

When asked about working and living with family in an interview, Prince Harry used what the journalist called a ‘vocal eye roll’ to candidly answer the question

Since moving to California, Prince Harry hasn’t been shy about discussing the difficulties he experienced with life in the UK as a working member of the Royal Family.

From his bombshell sit-down alongside Meghan with Oprah Winfrey, his bestselling memoir Spare, to the couple’s six-part documentary series with Netflix, the couple have opened up in detail about their journey as a family on several occasions – and candidly explored the issues that come along with the bright spotlight constantly trained upon the monarchy.
The couple have also taken part in a series of interviews over the last four years – often promoting the projects they are working on at the time. One – with The Cut magazine – centred around the launch of Meghan’s podcast, Archetypes, and the Duchess was the main focus of the interview, but Prince Harry made a brief appearance too, with the journalist noting a “vocal eye roll” from the Duke when he was asked about families working together.

The interview, which was published in August 2023, saw the journalist – Allison P. Davis – welcomed into Meghan and Harry’s Montecito home. Describing the couple’s shared home office, Davis wrote: “The two run Archewell from their shared home office, specifically from two plush club chairs placed side by side behind a single desk, facing into the room like thrones.”

Harry was then asked about what it was like to work together in such close proximity, to which he replied, “Most people that I know and many of my family, they aren’t able to work and live together,” with the journalist describing “He enunciates family with a vocal eye roll.” Harry continued, “It’s actually really weird because it’d seem like a lot of pressure. But it just feels natural and normal.”

For many years as a working royal, Harry shared offices with his brother Prince William, and sister-in-law Kate at Kensington Palace, and the two brothers launched their Royal Foundation in 2009, which tackled the charitable causes they wanted to work with. Archewell was launched in October 2020, amid the Coronavirus pandemic, and Meghan and Harry also discussed in the interview the hectic schedule of their working lives. “Well, it’s a start-up, we were building a business,” explained Meghan, adding that the couple were doing all of this during the lockdown, whilst also welcoming their daughter Princess Lilibet to their family in June 2021
