Meghan Markle ‘wanted to compete with Kate Middleton’ as she made huge demand
Meghan Markle reportedly wanted to live in Windsor Castle, but was told she and Prince Harry wouldn’t be able to and they instead moved to Nottingham Cottage.
Meghan Markle wasn’t too thrilled about her and Prince Harry’s so-called “starter home” at Nottingham Cottage, where they lived before their wedding.
One royal expert has claimed the Duchess of Sussex instead wanted to live in Windsor Castle. Kinsey Schofield suggested this was fueled by her rivalry with Kate Middleton, who was living with Prince William and their three kids in Kensington Palace.
Schofield suggested Meghan was denied her request to live in Windsor Castle for a number of reasons. During an appearance on GB News, she said: “She wanted to share the same space with the Queen [Elizabeth], and she was denied that space for multiple reasons.”
Schofield’s comments come following Meghan’s admission in the Netflix documentary Harry & Meghan that she envisioned a “somewhere more regal” home after getting engaged to Harry. The Duke of Sussex commented on their home, saying: “As far as people were concerned, we were living in a palace. And we were, in a cottage.”
Meghan added: “Kensington Palace sounds very regal, of course it does. It says ‘palace’ in the name! But Nottingham Cottage was so small.”
Meghan was reportedly cautioned against the Windsor Castle residency due to the lack of privacy which was made worse as public tours are hosted at the castle annually. William and Kate’s primary residence, Apartment 1A at Kensington Palace, was once the home of Princess Margaret.
