Adele’s Life Away From the Public Eye Is Allegedly Being Throttled by Scientology
One of Adele’s houses is nestled in the peaceful town of East Grinstead, surrounded by the scenic views of West Sussex. In 2017, the “Someone Like You” singer bought a home in the English countryside, an eight-bedroom, Tudor-style mansion called Ridge Hill Manor, located just outside of East Grinstead.
While the celebrity mansion has some impressive amenities like exposed beam ceilings, large inglenook fireplaces, a tennis court, and three guest cottages, it isn’t the architecture that comedian and close friend of Adele Alan Carr says is the reason one particular group, Scientologists, are interested in purchasing the plot from her.
Adele has a secret house in East Grinstead and the Scientologists tried to buy it off her,” Carr shared with The Mirror. Back when she initially bought the home in 2017, insiders noted that she “She has deliberately chosen the least showbiz place she can think of so she can live a normal, unflashy existence” to raise her son, Angelo, out of the limelight.
However, given the town’s connections to Scientology — and all the celebrities that come with it — this has proven more difficult for the singer than she might have initially anticipated.
East Grinstead has been well-known for its connection Scientology for decades. To the southwest of the town sits Saint Hill Manor, another stunning country house built in 1792. L. Ron Hubbard, the founded Scientology, made this his home in 1959. The manor served as the global headquarters of Scientology until 1967, and it is still owned by the church to this day.
While the manor hosts events like the annual Saint Hill Gala, attracting members worldwide, these gatherings have stirred controversy among locals who aren’t exactly thrilled with the organization’s decision to have one of its primary hubs in there town. The estate has seen visits from famous Scientology members like Tom Cruise, who reportedly used a wing of the manor as his retreat during the pandemic lockdown
Adele bought this mansion with her then-husband, Simon Konecki, and despite their 2020 divorce, she has stayed in the home. It doesn’t seem like she is intent on moving from her West Sussex-adjacent abode any time soon, no matter who is trying to buy it from her.
