Royal fans have noticed the moment a nervous Kate Middleton was supported by her now-husband, Prince William, in a sweet moment 14 years ago and captured on film.
Royal enthusiasts have only recently spotted the understated way Prince William supported Kate Middleton during a tense moment.
The couple announced their engagement on November 16, 2010, less than a month after William popped the question while the pair were on holiday in Kenya with friends.
Their highly-anticipated wedding took place on April 29, 2011, at Westminster Abbey, with millions tuning in from their homes to watch the lavish event.
Now, eagle-eyed followers reviewing a clip captured on the day their engagement was announced have noticed Kate appeared to be ‘shaking’ as she faced the media – and the endearing way William gave her reassurance. A user on X (previously known as Twitter) said: “Does anyone have a longer version of this video? i believe william had to help catherine bc her hand was shaking,” they inquired.
Another took to the platform to explain the “back story” through a series of related posts. “Catherine was shaking so bad they could not get a good photo of the ring so William held her hand,” stated one update, to which another replied: “The poor girl (she was so young back then).”
Discussing their engagement with ITV at the time, the Prince of Wales said: “We had a little private time away together with some friends and I just decided that it was the right time really.”
“We’d been talking about marriage for a while, so it wasn’t a massively big surprise, but I took her up somewhere nice in Kenya and proposed,” he said.
“It was very romantic,” Kate enthused. The interviewer probed: “And you said yes, obviously?” to which Kate responded: “Of course, yes.”

She then added: “We were out there with friends and things, so I really didn’t expect it at all,” referring to the event as a “total shock.”
Kate was given Princess Diana’s iconic engagement ring, to mark the occasion, which features a large sapphire set amongst diamonds. William said of the jewel: “I thought it was quite nice, because obviously she’s not going to be around to share any of the fun excitement of it all, that this is my way of keeping her sort of close to it all.”
He added he’d been nervous about keeping the ring safe over the course of the pair’s holiday, adding: “I literally would not let it go. Everywhere I went, I was keeping hold of it, because I knew this thing, if it disappeared, I’d be in a lot of trouble.”
The newlyweds were given the titles of Duke and Duchess of Cambridge on their wedding day. Additionally, they were gifted Anmer Hall, an impressive Georgian country residence dating ba
