Travis Kelce disappoints Kamala Harris: Why did the Chiefs tight end not attend the DNC as expected?
A CBS anchor assured that Kelce would attend the closing of the DNC on Friday.
Attendees at the last night of the Democratic National Convention (DNC) suffered a disappointment. Despite rumors that Travis Kelce would attend the event’s closing, thus endorsing Democratic candidate Kamala Harris, the Kansas City Chiefs star never arrived.
The Chiefs’ tight end has never been very open with his political preferences. Although some of his actions and endorsements make him seem to lean to the left, Kelce has always been very discreet in this regard.
Perhaps the clearest example of him being closer to the Democrats than the Republicans is his relationship with pop star Taylor Swift. Unlike her boyfriend, the songstress has always been very clear in her support for the Democratic Party.
Amid this context, reporter Gayle King recently said Kelce would attend the final night of the DNC in Chicago this week. However, the Chiefs star was noticeable in his absence.
King’s statement
On a recent broadcast of “CBS Mornings,” King began one of her segments by saying that she had not been able to confirm rumors that Swift or Beyoncé would attend the DNC. However, she dropped another bombshell that made viewers jump in their seats.
“I was told a couple of days ago that Travis Kelce also had reached out to the Harris campaign when it was first announced and said that he wanted to be here on the night that [Kamala] was speaking,” King said.
Although she was categorical in her announcement, the presenter also took some precautions by saying, “We’ll see if that is true.” Following her comment, some of her co-hosts reminded her that Kelce had a game that day, to which she responded, “I know he has a game. But that doesn’t mean he’s playing.”
Kelce’s absence
As is well known, Kelce and the Chiefs hosted the Chicago Bears at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City. Indeed, the tight end didn’t step onto the field, but he was very present in the stadium during his team’s loss in their final preseason game.
Head coach Andy Reid played by the book and left all his stars on the bench to eliminate any risk of injury, with the regular season kickoff just days away. But that didn’t mean Kelce didn’t have to be at the stadium.
The Chiefs will open the regular season hosting the Baltimore Ravens at Arrowhead on Thursday.
