A Taylor Swift fan has a gone viral after sharing footage of themselves tossing a diamond ring into the crowd during the superstar’s recent tour stop in Hamburg, Germany.
Over the weekend, a TikTok user by the name ‘Alannah’ uploaded a clip of herself tearfully singing along to Swift’s breakup ballad My Tears Ricochet as she removed a band from her left ring finger.
Before chucking the ring into the crowd, she belted the poignant lyric: ‘I didn’t have it in myself to go with grace’
The ring went flying and landed somewhere in the sections below her at Volksparkstadion, a football stadium with a 57,000 person capacity.
‘you’ve finally moved on’ was written overtop the dramatic black-and-white TikTok video along with the caption: ‘Chapter finally closed’
Alannah’s post received mix reactions from Taylor Swift fans, many of which pointed out that throwing a piece of metal into a crowd of people is a potential safety risk.
Like the sentiment [of the clip] but A REAL ONE?? like she could’ve done anything but this does this that could hurt someone,’ one X (formerly Twitter) user wrote.
Another asked: ‘now why are we throwing REAL RINGS???????’
‘imagine just enjoying the concert and then u randomly get hit with a f***ing ring,’ one Swiftie penned, with another adding that the ring could ‘easily damage someones skull with that force.’
Many felt that Alannah would have been better off ‘selling [the ring] for money’ instead of tossing it.
Others wondered if her diamond sparkler had been picked up by a ‘lucky’ fan.
‘Some swiftie got a free diamond ring and depending on big it was, definitely could sell that bad boy and buy more eras tour tickets,’ one Swiftie said via X.
Another wrote: ‘The person a few rows down getting a free pawn shop cash out’
‘Someone either got hurt or got a free ring’
Several Swifties took to the comment section to discourage other fans from replicating Alannah’s TikTok clip at future concerts.
‘This is not a trend we want to take off!’ one passionate fan wrote, with another adding: ‘it’s purely for the attention at this point’
One fan said that they found the video ‘cringy and embarrassing’ because stunts like Alannah’s may interfere with others’ Eras Tour experience.
‘I mean, why video/post this when it makes you look self-absorbed and completely disrespectful of those down-section from her,’ they concluded.
This is the latest instance of a concertgoer sparking outrage after throwing an object at a performer or towards the stage during a major artist’s concert.
Last year, Swift had to stop mid-performance to gently scold a fan who threw a ‘present’ at her during her Eras Tour show in Buenos Aires.
‘Just because communication means having gentle, healthy boundaries, it really freaks me out when stuff gets thrown on the stage,’ the Anti-Hero hitmaker told the crowd.
She added: ‘I love that you bought presents and that is so nice, but just, can you please not throw them on the stage.’
Hitmaker Bebe Rexha recently threatened to sue a concertgoer who allegedly tried to throw an object at her mid-performance earlier this month.
It comes one year after Rexha got ‘three stitches’ in her face after she was struck in the face by a fan’s phone while in concert in New York City in June 2023.
Harry Styles and rapper Drake were also recent victims of the disturbing trend.
Taylor Swift played two back-to-back shows in Hamburg on July 23 and July 24 before jetting off to Munich for concerts on July 27 and July 28.
She will next venture to Poland on August 1 for three back-to-back shows at PGE Narodowy.
Swift kicked off her Eras Tour in March 2023 in the United States and it will come to a close on December 8, 2024 with a show in Vancouver.
The three-hour show is Swift’s sixth concert tour and pays homage to her musical evolution over the last 18 years.
It is the highest-grossing concert tour in history with over $1billion in revenue, as per AP News.
Adding to the success, Swift released the Eras Tour concert film in theaters last October and it raked in $261.7 million at the worldwide box office.
As for her personal life, the Grammy Award-winning singer is dating Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce, 34.
Fans were delighted when the NFL star joined Swift on stage at her sold-out Wembley show in June.
The couple have been romantically linked since last summer and some fans are convinced that they are ‘secretly engaged.’
Swift sparked engagement speculation after she played a ‘cryptic’ surprise song at the Eras Tour in Gelsenkirchen, Germany earlier this month.
The third and final night in the city saw her perform a mash up of ‘Stay, Stay, Stay’ and ‘Paper Rings’ on guitar.
Paper Rings from her 2019 Lover album features lyrics such as ‘I like shiny things, but I’d marry you with paper rings’ and ‘darling, you’re the one I want’.
While it was written when she was in a relationship with her ex Joe Alwyn, fans are claiming that she chose to the sing the song as she might be engaged to the NFL star.
Fans reacted saying: ‘SHE SO READY TO GO FOREVER AND SO TRAVIS CODED’,
‘I hope they are secretly engaged!’,
‘You’re the one i want in paper rings, in picture frames, in all my dreams, so i think that it’s best if we both stay’ SHE JUST PROPOSED TO TRAVIS KELCE ON STAGE.’,
‘I just made a comment on the live saying ‘weird way to propose but i think he will say yes Taylor.’,
‘They are so engaged, right? I mean, it’s a done deal at this point.’
Neither have confirmed an engagement.
