Taylor Swift ignored Harrison Butker’s latest rant about the state of society as the controversial Kansas City Chiefs’ star helped defeat the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday, September 15 in Week 2 of the NFL season.
Butker is the highest-paid kicker in the league and proved why by making a 51-yard field goal to bail Patrick Mahomes out of a challenging performance at Arrowhead Stadium as they emerged victorious 26-25.
And with Swift in attendance, she still chose to celebrate the moment as she watched boyfriend Travis Kelce claim a second win of the 2024/25 NFL season, showing she wouldn’t let his comments get to her in the process.
The Chiefs will look to make it three in a row on Sunday, September 22 when they take on the Atlanta Falcons at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium, with the game scheduled to start at 20:20 ET/17:20 PT live on NBC.
Butker hit with pushback
Butker controversially burst to the front of news headlines when he appeared at Benedictine College in May to cast a series of political views to the gathered audience, which were criticized as anti-LGBTQ+, sexist and misogynistic.
In the speech he even name dropped Swift by choosing to use some of her lyrics from Bejewelled as part of his opening address by saying, “As my teammate’s girlfriend says, ‘familiarity breeds contempt.’”
He also went on to slam Pride Month as a “deadly sin”, attacked diversity initiatives and accused women of being told “diabolical lies” by believing they could chase down successful careers.
Harrison Butker doesn’t represent Kansas City nor has he ever,” Justice Horn, former Chair of the City of Kansas City’s LGBTQ Commission, wrote on X.com, formerly Twitter. “Kansas City has always been a place that welcomes, affirms and embraces our LGBTQ+ community members.”
Butker then signed a four-year $26.5m extension in August to become the highest-paid kicker in the NFL as he helps the Chiefs chase a historic and record third successive Super Bowl.
