Andy Reid hints Travis Kelce will NOT play for the Chiefs against the Chargers this week – after already deciding to rest Patrick Mahomes for their final regular season game

Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce might not play this weekend against the Los Angeles Chargers, per team head coach Andy Reid.

The Chiefs’ final regular season game against the Chargers is Sunday, with the team locked into the No. 3 playoff seed in the AFC.

Reid has confirmed multiple starters will not play in the game, with quarterback Patrick Mahomes officially sitting out. Kelce’s status is unclear and Reid didn’t commit one way or another to how much he’ll play Sunday.

When Reid was asked about the players that were close to milestones playing against Los Angeles, the 65-year-old Reid said it ‘depends’ on what the accomplishment is.

Then a reporter asked directly about Kelce’s chance at an eighth-consecutive 1,000-yard-receiving season. ‘We’ll see how all that goes,’ Reid said.

Reid added the conversations about playing in Week 18 for players are ‘one-sided.’

That appears to imply what Reid wants, he gets as he’s at the helm of the Chiefs.

Sitting important players has become more commonplace in the NFL for the last week of the regular season among teams whose playoff fates have already been determined.

The Baltimore Ravens will sit MVP favorite Lamar Jackson with the AFC’s No. 1 seed locked up this weekend.

The Denver Broncos know they won’t make the playoffs, so not playing Russell Wilson effectively ends his career with the team.

Kelce stands at 984 receiving yards, maybe only needing one reception to get the 16 yards necessary to bring his season total to four digits.

The Chiefs will start Blaine Gabbert at quarterback in place of Mahomes on Sunday.

With Kelce’s status uncertain, there has been no word on whether Taylor Swift, Kelce’s girlfriend, will be in attendance for the game.
