Patrick Mahomes reveals a crucial key that’s helped the Chiefs win two Super Bowls
If there is anyone who is currently in the league that you should take advice from if you want to win a Super Bowl, it should be the Kansas City Chiefs quarterback, Patrick Mahomes. He is the active starting quarterback with the most Super Bowl rings and has played in the most Super Bowl games, which is pretty crazy to say out loud.
So, it’s safe to say he knows what he is talking about when it comes to winning and playing football in January. That seems to be his forte.
The Chiefs haven’t played their best football in 2023, and he knows that, yet, somehow, it feels like this team, even with all the issues, is still one you just cannot count out of winning the Super Bowl. That’s because you can’t. And, while they didn’t blow out the New England Patriots like they maybe should have, they still won.
They are getting a bit better in the areas they need to be getting better in. And the best part is that they are doing that at the perfect time. This is when you want to play your best football, not at the beginning of the season, starting red-hot right out of the gates. That has been the Chiefs’ secret recipe to success over the last few years.
“You want to play your best football going into the playoffs,” Mahomes told reporters on Thursday. “I think that’s what I have learned in my career. You can start hot, but you want to be playing your best football when you get to the playoffs because it doesn’t matter what your record is at that point.
“Whoever plays the best football wins the Super Bowl. Obviously, we did some good things during the last game. I think if we can finish better, we started better finally, but we have to finish better.”
Last season, the Chiefs rode a five-game win streak into the playoffs and won 10 of their last 11 games. That’s a huge reason they ended up winning the Super Bowl. In 2020, when the Chiefs lost the Super Bowl to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, they won 10 of their last 11 games.
They actually had a 10-game win streak going into the final game of the year against the Los Angeles Chargers, but played all backups and lost the last game of the season. In 2019, when the Chiefs won their first Super Bowl under Andy Reid, they were on a six-game winning streak going into the playoffs.
If you can’t tell, there is a trend here. It sounds like Mahomes knows what he is talking about, and as the playoffs get closer, expect to see the Chiefs get better. Let’s see if the Chiefs can get the Christmas spirit rolling with a win over the Las Vegas Raiders
Andy Reid actually liked one of the Chiefs’ penalties vs. the Raiders, well, kind of
