Arrowhead Stadium was stunned as Kansas City fell to their sixth defeat of a frustrating and uncharacteristic season.

They face going on the road in the playoffs if they want to make it back to the Super Bowl.

Kansas City has been to three Super Bowls in four years and is the reigning champion.

But Mahomes was seen on the sidelines looking beat during the Christmas Day disaster.

Fans claimed he looked “extremely emotional” and his “eyes were watery” in the shot from CBS’ broadcast.

But the quarterback was defiant in his post-game press conference.

He said: “I still believe that we can go do what we want to do.

“It’s just how can we correct it as quickly as possible.

“We’re two games left that are guaranteed and then you talk about the playoffs and so all you can do is move on to that next day, get better then and try to be better the next time we step on the field.

“If we clean it up, we’ll be able to score points.

“You have to do it and if we don’t, we’ll be going home.

“If we clean it up, we can beat anybody. I truly believe that, but we got to prove that we can do it.”

The Chiefs failed to clinch the American Football Conference West and must wait another week to do so.

They cannot finish as the No. 1 seed after the Baltimore Ravens’ win over the San Francisco 49ers on Christmas night.

Kansas City is currently the No. 3 seed in the AFC with the Miami Dolphins coming in at No. 2.

They have hosted the last five AFC Championship Games at Arrowhead Stadium but this year could be forced into a playoff road trip.
